Thank you for the opportunity to interview for the Scout Executive position in the Pine Tree Council. I am very honored to be chosen, and my family and I are excited about the possibility of joining your team.
The Pine Tree Council's strength and quality program coming out of the challenges facing the BSA and Local Councils during the past few of years, as well as COVID, shows the support of dedicated volunteers, which is the key to a strong Scouting program.
Since being approached about this opportunity, my wife Sheri and I have done a lot of research. The Portland area looks like a wonderful place to live and work. It looks to have a great atmosphere with great schools, plenty of opportunity for outdoor recreation, and cultural events.
This website highlights my talents and skills and provides information on my background and family. I hope that you find it helpful in getting to know me. I believe I am a great fit for the Pine Tree Council. I look forward to meeting you and would very much like to partner with you as your Scout Executive.
I have a Master’s Degree in Anthropology, twenty three years of experience as a commissioned professional in the Boy Scouts of America, and eleven years of experience as a Scout Executive. I have one of the most geographically diverse backgrounds in the BSA, serving from the Northshore of Chicago to the Mississippi River port towns of the Quad Cities; the Rust Belt communities and Cleveland suburbs of Northcentral Ohio, the large geography of Wyoming, and the rural Appalachian communities of the Twin Tiers of New York and Pennsylvania. This has provided me with experiences working with a great diversity of people. I have built relationships with CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, owners of major oil and natural gas companies, national and state elected officials, small business owners, and a wide variety of culturally and socioeconomically diverse people.
I have a proven record of strong financial acumen, fiscal stewardship, and major gifts fundraising. I am a student of leadership, reading a lot on the subject, putting new ideas into practice, and am experienced leading through challenging times. I have a track record of building strong, empowered teams and a high employee retention rate. I get involved in the communities where I live and serve and build strong strategic relationships.
I believe in the mission of Scouting and am dedicated to bringing it to as many families as possible. This requires maintaining a strong financial position, fundraising for strategic initiatives, reaching underserved communities, creating an environment of inclusiveness, maintaining and expanding a high quality program, strong customer service, and support of the unit leaders who give so much of themselves to deliver the promise of Scouting to the families in their units.
